Clinical Analysis of Diabetic Retinopathy

Abstract
129 cases of diabetic retinopathy were classified into background and proliferative types and type ¥° and type ¥± diabetes. Each case of diabetic retinopathy was analyzed according to the sex, age duration of diabetes, visual acuity, and complications such as vitreous hemorrhage, tractional retinal detachment, neovascular glaumma, and macular edema.
The results were as follows :
1. Among 129 diabetic retinopathy patients, the incidence of type ¥° was 18.6% and type ¥± was 81.4%, and background retinopathy was 61.2% and proliferative type was 38.8%. Type ¥° diabetes was significantly associated with proliferative retinopathy than type ¥±.
2. The peak incidence of diabetic retinopathy was in 6th decade.
3. The incidence of proliferative retinopathy increased with duration of diabetes mellitus.
4. The visual acuity of proliferative retinopathy was significantly worse than that of background retinopathy, and the risk of visual impairment also inclosed with duration of diabetes and. age at diagnosis of diabetes.
5. The incidence of blindness was 11.6% and the most common cause of blindness was vitreous hemorrhage.
6. The most common complication was vitreous hemorrhage in proliferative retinopathy and cataract in background retinopathy.
